It was sad to say goodbye to the many people we love in Siem Reap but it’s wonderful to be on our way. My feet feel light, my heart is singing and I keep bursting […]

We hadn’t been very far afield for the last few weeks but we had heard that the solar lights we installed in Lighting up a village are a big hit. In fact, they’ve been serving a […]

When I first started travelling in the early eighties, being able to keep on travelling meant finding work in each new place. It was usually bar work, waitressing, cleaning and such-like. My first overseas job […]

Note that ’bang’ is pronounced ‘bong’. One of the best things about going to Battambang is getting there by boat. The boat leaves Siem Reap, travels briefly along the very dirty Siem Reap river, crosses […]

Brobmai village

The first time we came to Cambodia, we met a teenage boy working in the guesthouse where we stayed in Siem Reap. He had a big smile and very little English. This was the beginning […]

It’s almost three years since my last blog post. That’s how long it’s taken to finish setting up our home base in the beautiful NSW Northern Rivers and to extricate ourselves from the familiar comfort […]

About me

I have always been a wanderer, a traveller, a seeker-of-adventures.

Growing up on a farm outside the small, pretty village of Urbenville at the edge of the Border Ranges, Northern Rivers NSW Australia, I spent my childhood poring over atlases and dreaming of faraway places.

When I finished school I worked for a few months, saved some money and set off travelling to Europe – and I never really stopped. The longest I stayed in one place between Urbenville and the age of 40 was 3 years.

Somehow, in the middle of life I got stuck. The longer I stayed still, the harder it was to move. I got so comfortable that I put down roots and turned into a hermit.

So, in the spirit of shaking things up, my partner JH and I are off on adventures outside the hermit-hole. This blog is about the journey.
